We are currently working on compiling the 2022 Saturday Captain Rota. It is a vital aspect of the group and an opportunity to give something back to a club that gives so much. Those newer to the rota will be paired with experienced Captains and there are generally many others ready to assist on the day. If anyone should wish to opt out from the rota, please drop an email to currachs@gmail.com by Wednesday 26th January.

Given the ongoing public health restrictions, we will be holding the AGM over Zoom this year, a link will be sent out closer to the time. The draft agenda has been emailed this evening. If you have anything to add to the agenda please drop an email to currachs@gmail.com We must have 25% of the membership in attendance to form a quorum for a General Meeting - please attend if you can. One of the constitution changes we are seeking to make is a change to the Membership year to run from Feb - Jan, with this in mind we ask that members do not lodge funds or send on membership forms for 2022 membership until after the AGM has taken place. All 2021 memberships will be deemed extended until 31st January 2022 until the motion is put before the AGM. We are very keen to get new blood on the committee, the vast majority of those serving have been in situ for some years and many of our longstanding members have already been on the committee. It is your club too so please do step up if you are able to do so! Being a member of the commitee is not as daunting as it might sound, we want ordinary members who can represent the overall membership and put forward their thoughts on matters that come up over the course of the year. Outwith the meetings, you can contribute as much or as little time as you like. Meetings take place on the first Tuesday of each month (currently via Zoom) and last approximately 1 hour. We are required under the constitution to hold a minimum of 9 each year. It is not necessary to attend every meeting, we must just have a quorum of 4 committee members for each meeting and they should avoid missing more than 3 consectutive meetings. Regular topics include Health & Safety, maintenance, upcoming activities on and off the water, Ocean to City, Climate Change & Biodiversity, funding opportunities, communications & technology and new club site. If you are interested in joining in 2022 please pop an email or approach one of the 2021 committee.

Our club has been selected for a new Cork City Council pilot programme - to assist us in developing a Climate & Biodiversity Action plan, City Council will assist with implementing over the next two years. The programme is being facilitated by our fellow member Martin O'Donoghue, who will explain a little more below..... An introduction to our facillitator - Martin O'Donoghue 👋🏻For those who don't know me, my name is Martin O Donoghue, I've been a club member since 2005 and due to the C19 hiatus and the fact I currently live on a mountain - I have been off the water for most of the past year. 🌍 I will be facilitating a 6 week programme on behalf of Cork Environmental Forum, which is aimed at helping members better understand the sustainability challenges we all face and showcase some solutions that can be adopted to help address these. 🚣🏻‍♀️ Rowing a currach up and down the Lee allowed me to access an ecosystem and culture that I am privileged to be part of. If you feel strongly about protecting our river, the wildlife that live in and around it and want to ensure this resource remains viable for future generations, then this programme called "Community Climate Action Plan" is for you. So, what next? 🐞We will meet for six Thursday evenings, from 7 to 9.30pm, to discuss issues relating to consumption and waste, travel, water, energy and biodiversity. You will learn methods for personal greener living and also get to shape actions, that we as a club can choose to implement in the coming years. 🌳Currachs themselves, embody an ecological and sustainable approach to boat building. Even with their bitumen coat, they have a much lower carbon footprint than any other boat on the Lee. 💚Through this programme you can learn ways of incorporating sustainable approaches into your lives and the activities of the club. In addition to being the largest currach club in the world - we can lead the way in becoming the most sustainable one also! Who? Any club member, past or present is welcome to participate. When? The first session will be on Thursday November 4th 19:30 Where? Venue TBC How do I sign up? Indicate interest by emailing currachs@gmail.com

An Extraordinary General Meeting will be held via Zoom on Thursday 23rd September at 7pm. Email has been sent out with further details to all 2021 members this evening. The meeting is to table a proposal from the committee for a further change to the constitution (revenue clauses to assist in the application for funding grants). We need a quorum of 20 members for the vote to go ahead, so appreciate if as many of you as possible can attend, it should be no more than 5-10 minutes of your time. If you are a 2021 member and have not received the email or cannot access the link to the clause, please drop an email to currachs@gmail.com

As restrictions are eased further and many more people have been vaccinated, the committee has taken the decision to resume Saturday public rowing sessions with effect from 10th July. There may be limited places available to ensure social-distancing can be maintained onsite and those places are available on a first come, first served basis. Current protocols remain in place (these can be found in the COVID 19 Protocols folder in the Files section). All public rowers should familiarise themselves with these protocols before arriving. Those who are interested in trying out currach rowing should ensure they bring with them a mask & hand sanitiser and check in/out of the premises using the QR Code on the club's gate.

Hey Folks, We were hoping to hold the AGM virtually, but unfortunately the constitution doesn't currently allow for this. We have a number of proposals for changing the constitution at this AGM, so it's essential that it's undertaken properly. For now we'll have to defer until such time as we can gather enough members in person. We'll have an update once the restrictions are eased. In the meantime we have put together the officers' reports and members' accounts of some of last year's rowing activities for you. We hope you'll enjoy. View Newsletter It is the intention for all the officers of the committee to remain in their current positions for 2021. Stephen Heaphy, Karen Kelly, Kate Magner & Alan Murphy will be standing down, we thank them for their contribution in what has been a truly unusual year. We also welcome onboard Celine Dennehy, Ruth Hargrove & Kieran Murphy. If anyone else is interested in joining the committee this year, please get in touch, we are particularly keen to have someone representing those who participate in the regattas.

As you will know, the whole country has increased to Level 3 of the Government's roadmap today, following the weekend's NPHET meeting. The committee need to take some time to review our current protocols in a little more detail, to ensure we're doing everything possible to limit risks to members, their families and those who are most vulnerable in our community, in addition to meeting the roadmap's requirements.  In the meantime, rowing will continue to our current protocols, but must meet social distancing requirements (1 rower to a 2 hand boat, 2 rowers to 3 hand boat) unless crew are from the same household. Please remember to: 📖 Familiarise yourself with the protocols 👨🏻‍✈️ Respect the instructions given by Duty Captains 🤲🏻 Maintain good hand hygiene  ⏪⏩ Socially distance before, during and after your row.
